Steve Manno - Owner, Jeweler

Steve has a total of 15 years in the watch and jewelry business. He got his start in a family watch repair business in 2002 in downtown Cleveland. His start with watches got him involved in the refinishing and inner workings of wrist and pocket watches. He unexpectedly developed a passion for timepieces modern and vintage. Steve started studying the high end watches like Rolex, Patek, Omega and Breitling then headed towards the buy/sell/trade market. Set with his watch knowledge he pushed his way into the wholesale/retail jewelry business. His next venture was in the diamond world on a wholesale buying level. That really excited him to the level of wanting to know everything about everything in the business. Now armed with watch repair, jewelry repair, diamond buying/selling, estate settling and custom jewelry design knowledge he is ready to be at service for anyone who asks for his help.

Tom Mirabelli - Owner, Jeweler

Tom started in the business back in 2004 as a retail sales associate for a chain jeweler. He quickly fell in love with the industry and found himself moving to several states over the midwest as a sales manager to lead different teams. His passion was most focused on building relationships with his customers, and being able to help them find jewelry for special occasions. His diamond certification through DCA and GIA gives him the knowledge to be able to teach people what they are seeing to allow them to make the best choice for their needs. He loves seeing clients return over the years and building a lifelong relationship with them.

The History of DavEd Jewelers
DavEd Jewelers was opened in Historic Downtown Willoughby in January of 1945. It was named DavEd for its two original investors: Dave Fertile, a Cleveland diamond merchant, and Ed Wiles, a realtor in Lake County.

Tom J. Nichols, owner of Nichols Jewelry located in Cleveland, managed the store for Tom and, six months after DavEd opened Tom J. and his brother Harland, closed Nichols Jewelry and bought DavEd and kept the name.

Tom W. Nichols worked for his dad, Tom J., and his Uncle Harland after school and during the summers. Tom inherited the business at the passing of his father and uncle. His sidekick, Jo, came to help out in the store for two weeks while Tom’s dad was ill. She worked at the store for Tom for fifty years before passing away.

Tom attributed his success to business built on trust, service, getting along with others in the business, treating the customers like friends, enjoying work, honesty, competition, relationships, referrals and longevity, the success of Willoughby’s Downtown restoration and beauty, and giving the customers what they want.

DavEd Jewelers Today
On September 30, 2011, Tom W. Nichols sold the business to Tom Mirabelli and Steve Manno, a pair of budding entrepreneurs who are close to 60 years his junior. Nichols knows Manno because the latter’s father did some watch repair work for DavEd. Once Nichols began discussing the change with Manno, he grew to like Mirabelli, who has been friends with Manno since their days at Lake Catholic High School, who also had 14 years’ experience in the retail side of jewelry.

The two new owners are striving to carry on the legacy of Nichols, that includes the name and reputation that he has built over the past 66 years. They have also made many updates to the stores’ appearance and merchandise to create a more modern feel to the store. They specialize in diamonds and engagement/anniversary rings. They not only have the most competitive prices in the area on their diamonds, but also buy any unused jewelry that their customers may have, or re-create the jewelry into new modern styles that can be handed down from generation to generation. As always, they invite anybody in the area to stop in for a free jewelry cleaning and inspection.
